Kohler Driveway & Pavers: The Tampa Owner’s Guide
If you’re searching for a Kohler-specific driveway or paver part in Tampa, the short answer is this: most Kohler paver and driveway systems use Kohler’s proprietary interlocking edge channels and 4-inch or 6-inch grid paver trays that are generally stocked by local supply houses, and Elmstead Remodeling Tampa can source and install the correct match within a few days. A full paver driveway install in Tampa runs $7,000 – $18,000; a repair or partial replacement to fit a failed Kohler section typically falls between $800 and $3,500 depending on square footage and subgrade condition. Owners usually find the problem after a rainy week, when one paver sinks, a corner edge channel pops loose, or a section starts tipping because the base washed out underneath.
We’re an independent remodeling contractor, not a Kohler dealer or affiliate. But we install Kohler products every month, and we keep an eye on what fails here in Tampa’s climate. More on that below.
Which Kohler Models This Applies To

Kohler’s paver and driveway product line is smaller than their plumbing catalog, but it’s out there, mostly under the Kohler Landscape and Kohler Grid Paver series. The common denominators are the interlocking tray system, the plastic edge restraint with integrated spikes, and paver units that drop into those trays at either 4-inch or 6-inch centers. If you have a Kohler driveway paver system, look for the tray stamp on the underside of any loose paver or along the exposed edge channel. The stamp will have a five-digit factory code, and the tray spacing measurement is the quickest way to tell whether you need a 4-inch or 6-inch replacement grid section.
The compatibility gotcha we see in Tampa: Kohler changed edge channel profiles around 2019. The older channels have a square lip; the newer ones have a rounded, slightly taller lip. If you buy the newer edge channel for an older tray system, it won’t seat, and the outside row will ride high. When we send a photo of the existing edge channel to our supply partner before ordering, the part arrives right the first time.
There are quality aftermarket grid trays that fit Kohler pavers, and they’re often less expensive. For mid-driveway replacements where the tray is hidden under the paver, we’ll use a spec-matched aftermarket tray without a problem. For the visible edge channel, we recommend the Kohler OEM part. It’s the piece that takes sun, mower bumps, and car tire pressure, and the UV-stabilized plastic in the OEM channel holds up longer in Florida sun than most aftermarket versions.

Signs Your Kohler Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- One paver sits lower than its neighbors after a rain. This is almost always subgrade erosion. Tampa’s sandy soil drains fast, but it also moves. If the base washed out under one tray, that tray is no longer supported, and the paver drops.
- The edge channel has pulled away from the pavers. The steel spikes in the edge channel anchor into soil or crushed base. In sandy Tampa yards, those spikes work loose over a few wet-dry seasons, especially along driveways where a car tire catches the edge on the way in.
- Pavers rock underfoot or make a clacking sound when you step on them. That means the tray under the paver has either cracked or lost contact with the sand layer. The paver is now resting on two points instead of the full tray surface.
- Water pools in one section of the driveway. Kohler paver trays have drainage slots in the bottom. When fine Tampa sand and silt plug those slots, water can’t drain through, and it pools on top instead. This is more common in low spots where a driveway meets the garage apron.
- A tray corner is visible through a gap between pavers. This usually means the tray warped from heat exposure. Black plastic trays in direct Tampa sun can warp if the paver over them was displaced even briefly, and once warped, nothing seats correctly in that cell.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A Kohler paver driveway replacement in Tampa typically runs $7,000 – $18,000 for a full install, and that range covers the difference between a straightforward tear-out-and-rebuild on flat ground and a job that needs subgrade correction, drainage work, or a new base. A partial repair, where we replace a few damaged trays and edge channels, runs $800 – $3,500 depending on how many pavers need to come out, whether the base needs fresh compacted sand, and whether we’re repairing the edge or the field of the driveway.
Every job gets a written price before any work starts. The quote separates material cost, labor, and any disposal fees, so you can see exactly what you’re paying for. We don’t hand you a verbal estimate that changes after the crew arrives. What’s on the paper is what you pay, and the work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right after the job is complete, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
A homeowner can safely lift out a loose Kohler paver, check whether the tray underneath is cracked, and clean debris out of the drainage slots. That’s inspection, not repair, and it’s a reasonable first step. The risky part is the base. If the sand base under the tray has washed out or the subgrade has compacted unevenly, adding sand without fixing the drainage just moves the problem. On a driveway, top-layer work that doesn’t fix the base typically fails again within one Tampa rainy season.
Also worth mentioning: Kohler grid trays interlock. Pulling up one paver without releasing the adjacent tray cells can crack the connecting tabs on the tray, which means you now have two damaged cells instead of one. We see that all the time. If you want a pair of eyes on it before you start pulling pavers, call (850) 779-4017 and we’ll take a look.
FAQs

A properly installed Kohler paver driveway in Tampa lasts 15 – 20 years before the tray system starts showing meaningful wear. The pavers themselves can go longer, but the plastic trays and edge channels are the wear items. UV exposure, standing water, and car tire loading shorten that to 10 – 12 years in full-sun driveways with poor drainage. Call (850) 779-4017 if you’re seeing early tray trouble. We’ll tell you honestly whether it’s a repair or a re-do.
Most failing sections can be repaired without tearing out the whole driveway. As long as the base under the damaged area is stable and the surrounding trays are intact, we can cut out the damaged tray section, re-compact the base, and install new trays, edge channels, and pavers. Full replacement only makes sense when the subgrade is compromised across a large area, which happens more often in Tampa yards with clay pockets or poor drainage. We’ll show you the difference in the condition of the base during the estimate. Call (850) 779-4017 to schedule a free look.
Most single-section repairs, where we replace a few trays and an edge channel, take one day from start to clean-up. Full driveway teardowns and rebuilds typically take three to five days, depending on the base correction needed and how much material has to come out. We’ll give you a completion window in writing before we start, and we hold to it. To get a specific timeline for your driveway, call (850) 779-4017.
We keep common 4-inch Kohler paver trays and the newer rounded-lip edge channels on the truck for the repairs we see most in Tampa. For 6-inch trays, older square-lip edge channels, or larger replacement runs, we order through our local supply partner, and those parts usually arrive within two to four business days. We source other manufacturer parts the same way: KraftMaid for cabinetry, Cambria and Silestone for countertops. Kohler parts are familiar territory. Call (850) 779-4017 and we can confirm same-day whether your specific part is on hand or needs ordering.
