Sakrete Kitchen Remodeling: The Tampa Owner’s Guide

Sakrete kitchen remodeling projects in Tampa typically run $14,000 to $45,000 installed, and the work usually involves a full gut or a substantial refresh of cabinets, counters, flooring, and surfaces. Most Tampa homeowners call us after a Sakrete product fails mid-project, whether that is a countertop mix that cracked along a seam or a concrete overlay that separated from the subfloor. The most common call we get is from someone who started a Sakrete-based kitchen project on their own, hit a snag with material failure or an under-prepped substrate, and now needs a crew to correct it before the rest of the kitchen goes in.

Call (850) 779-4017

If you are holding a Sakrete product that is not curing, not bonding, or not holding up, the fastest way to get an answer is to call (850) 779-4017. We will tell you over the phone whether the problem is the material, the prep, or the Tampa humidity, and what a fix will cost in writing before anyone shows up at your door.

Which Sakrete Models This Applies To

Sakrete makes a range of concrete and mortar mixes that show up in Tampa kitchens in different ways. The ones we see most often on kitchen remodels are their concrete countertop mixes, floor levelers, and the mortar lines used under tile. Each behaves differently, and the failure mode is rarely the material itself. It is almost always the substrate underneath, the water ratio at the time of the pour, or the cure schedule someone skipped because the Tampa afternoon heat made the mix look dry an hour too early.

The model-specific reality with Sakrete is this: their mixes are portland-cement based, which means they need a consistent 28-day cure to reach full compressive strength, and they do not like being poured above 90 degrees without a wet cure or a shade cover. That is exactly the temperature range Tampa sees from May through September, and it is the single biggest compatibility gotcha we run into on Sakrete kitchen jobs here. If a countertop or floor patch was poured on a hot afternoon in South Tampa or Carrollwood without a plan for the heat, the surface will look fine for a few weeks, then start to dust, crack, or delaminate once the kitchen sees daily use. Sakrete mixes also need the right thickness for the application. A countertop mix poured at a half-inch depth when the spec calls for two inches will not hold up, no matter how well it was mixed.

We stock Sakrete-compatible repair materials on the truck for patching, bonding, and surface correction, and we can match their sand mix, mortar mix, and leveler specs. When an OEM Sakrete product has failed, we will tell you plainly whether it should be removed and repoured, or whether a mechanical bond and a proper cure cycle can save the surface you already have.

Elmstead Remodeling Tampa is an independent service provider. We are not affiliated with Sakrete, and we do not represent their warranty. What we do is install and repair their products correctly, and we also work with brands like KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone when a kitchen calls for cabinetry or stone surfaces alongside the concrete work.

Signs Your Sakrete Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Hairline cracks along seams or edges. This is usually a cure issue. Concrete that dried too fast in the Tampa heat will shrink faster than it can build strength, and the cracks show up along the thinnest points first. It does not mean the slab is lost, but it does mean it needs an honest evaluation before you put a hot pan on it.
  • Dusting or powdery surface. A Sakrete surface that leaves a chalky residue on your hand was likely mixed too wet, over-troweled, or not cured under the right conditions. Dusting means the surface matrix never fully bonded, and it will only worsen with foot traffic and cleaning.
  • Hollow sound when tapped. If a Sakrete patch or overlay on a kitchen floor sounds hollow under a light tap, it has delaminated from the subfloor. The bond line failed, typically because the concrete underneath was dirty, painted, or too smooth to accept the new material.
  • Grout and mortar crumbling between tiles. Sakrete mortar lines that crumble under light pressure were usually left too dry at the mix stage, or the tile was set on a floor with too much deflection. In older Tampa homes with pier-and-beam foundations, movement under the floor is a common culprit.
  • Stains that will not scrub out. Concrete is naturally porous. If a Sakrete countertop or floor was never sealed, or sealed with the wrong product, tomato sauce, coffee, and grease will set permanently within minutes. This is a surface-protection failure, not a structural one, and it is often fixable with the right sealer and a thorough prep pass.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

New painted shaker cabinets with an organized deep drawer

Sakrete kitchen remodeling work in Tampa runs from $14,000 to $45,000 depending on the size of the kitchen, the condition of the subfloor and walls, and how much of the existing concrete needs to come out. Smaller rectification jobs, like removing and repouring a single concrete countertop run or repairing a failed floor patch, land at the low end of that range. A full kitchen with concrete counters, a new island pour, floor leveling, tile, and cabinet work sits at the high end.

What drives the price most is what is underneath the surface. If the subfloor is flat and sound, the number stays low. If it is out of level by an inch, or if there is old cutback adhesive, water damage, or a bounce in the floor joists, the prep work becomes the job and the price reflects that. We give a written price before any work starts, and that price does not grow once the crew arrives. You will know the material and labor split, what gets protected, and what we will do with the debris before you sign anything. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it is not done right, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before you pick up the phone. Look at the thickness of the pour at an exposed edge. Look for cracks wider than a credit card at any seam. Run your hand over the surface to feel for dusting. Note whether the surface was ever sealed. None of that requires a tool, and it gives us a running start on the phone.

What you should not do is try to knock out a failed concrete countertop on your own, especially if it sits over cabinets with plumbing or wiring underneath. A concrete slab weighs roughly 18 pounds per square foot at two inches thick. A three-foot by eight-foot countertop section is hundreds of pounds. If it releases wrong, it will take the cabinet face with it, and someone can get hurt. Sakrete mixes also generate heat as they cure, and a mis-mixed batch poured over existing surfaces can bond to places you never intended. This is one of those jobs where the demo is the dangerous part, and it is worth having a trained crew with the right tools and the right insurance do the lifting. Call (850) 779-4017 and we will talk you through whether the job is a repair, a repour, or a full replacement.
