Oldcastle Bathroom Remodeling: The Tampa Owner’s Guide
A full Oldcastle-compatible bathroom remodel in Tampa typically runs $9,000 to $28,000 installed, depending on the size of the room, the fixtures you choose, and whether we’re moving plumbing or working with the existing layout. We stock Oldcastle-compatible shower pans, wall surrounds, and trim kits on our trucks, and we can usually start your project within a week or two of the estimate. Most Tampa homeowners call us after they notice hairline cracks in the shower pan, discoloration spreading under the surface, or grout that won’t stop weeping no matter how many times it’s resealed.
Elmstead Remodeling Tampa is an independent remodeling contractor. We’re not affiliated with Oldcastle, but we’ve installed and replaced their products in homes across Tampa for years, including the bungalow corridors of Seminole Heights where the older slab floors make pan fitment a job for somebody with a level and a lot of patience.
Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle bathrooms in Tampa homes generally fall into two camps. The first is the Original series, which uses a 32-inch by 60-inch shower base with a center drain and straight wall surrounds. The second is the Premier series, which runs 36 inches by 60 inches and uses an offset drain that sits closer to the front edge. The drain location matters more than anything else. If you measure the distance from the drain center to the back wall and get 16 inches, you’re looking at an Original pan. If it’s closer to 9 or 10 inches, it’s a Premier. Getting this wrong means the new pan won’t line up with your existing drain pipe, which turns a one-day swap into a concrete-cutting job.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Oldcastle’s factory pan carries a limited lifetime warranty, but the fine print requires the original receipt and photo documentation of a professional installation. We’ve seen aftermarket pans from a couple of suppliers that match the dimensions but use a thinner gel coat. For Tampa bathrooms, we recommend OEM when the budget allows. The humidity here exposes any weakness in the surface layer within a year or two. We also keep KraftMaid and Cambria on our material list for vanity and countertop upgrades, and Silestone when a homeowner wants a solid surface that can handle sunscreen bottles and wet towels without water marks.
- Original series: 32″ x 60″, center drain, straight surrounds, available in white and bone.
- Premier series: 36″ x 60″, offset drain, contoured surround panels, available in white, bone, and gray.
- Trim kits: Drain strainers and overflow covers are model-specific. A Premier trim kit will not seat properly on an Original pan.

Signs Your Oldcastle Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Hairline cracks in the shower pan floor. These start small, usually around the drain opening where the gel coat is thinnest. In Tampa’s humidity, water seeps in and the crack widens with every hot shower. What looks like a scratch today is a leak by next spring.
- Soft spots underfoot. If the pan flexes when you stand on it, the substrate underneath has started to break down. Water has gotten past the surface and is eating the bed beneath.
- Yellowing or clouding of the wall surround. Oldcastle surrounds from the late 2000s and early 2010s had a clear topcoat that degrades under hard water and harsh cleaners. Once it clouds, you can’t polish it back.
- Persistent mildew along the seam where the pan meets the surround. That seam should shed water. When the sealant fails and water wicks behind the panel, you’ll get black staining that returns a week after every cleaning.
- Gurgling or slow draining with no visible clog. This can mean the drain assembly has shifted or cracked below the pan. It drains, but slowly, and the gurgle is air being pulled through a crack in the drain body.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

| Scope | Tampa Installed Price |
|---|---|
| Shower pan replacement (Original, 32″ x 60″) | $3,000 – $6,500 |
| Full surround replacement (pan + walls + trim) | $4,500 – $12,000 |
| Tub-to-shower conversion (Oldcastle-compatible pan and surround) | $3,500 – $10,000 |
| Complete bathroom remodel (vanity, fixtures, tile, pan, surround) | $9,000 – $28,000 |
The range comes down to what’s behind the walls. If the framing is dry and the drain pipe is intact, we’re in and out in a few days. If the water has been leaking long enough to rot the subfloor, the job includes cutting out the damaged section, sistering new framing, and leveling the bed before the new pan goes in. That’s where the price climbs.
Every Elmstead Remodeling Tampa quote includes a written price before any work starts. We write it down before we start so nobody is guessing mid-project. That price covers the pan or surround, the drain and trim kit, disposal of the old unit, drop cloths and shoe covers, and a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every completed project: if something is not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing an Oldcastle pan looks manageable on paper: disconnect the drain, pry up the old pan, drop in the new one. The catch is that the new pan has to sit dead level on a properly prepared bed, and the drain has to seat perfectly on the first try. A one-eighth-inch gap under the pan turns into a crack within six months. A misaligned drain gasket leaks from day one, and you won’t know until the ceiling below starts staining.
What you can safely do is shut off the water to the bathroom, pull the drain cover, and look for obvious cracks or separated gaskets. That tells us what we’re walking into. The actual pan work is a job for a crew with the right level, the right bed material, and a warranty that stands behind the install. If you’re in Tampa and you’re looking at a cracked Oldcastle pan, call Graham Stein and the Elmstead team at (850) 779-4017. We’ll give you a written price for the fix, and you’ll know exactly what the job costs before a single tool comes off the truck.
FAQs

In Tampa’s climate, expect 12 to 18 years from an Original series pan and 15 to 20 from a Premier, assuming it was installed level and cleaned with non-abrasive products. Pans that were set on an uneven bed fail much sooner, sometimes inside five years. Call (850) 779-4017 and we can inspect yours and tell you what the actual condition is, not what the brochure promised.
Small surface scratches can be polished out, but structural cracks in an Oldcastle pan cannot be reliably repaired. The gel coat is a molded surface; patching it creates a seam that flexes differently than the surrounding material and will reopen. Replacement is the honest fix. We’ll give you a written quote before any work starts, so you can weigh repair against replacement with real numbers.
A straightforward Oldcastle pan and surround swap takes two to three working days in most Tampa homes: day one for demolition and bed prep, day two for setting the pan and walls, day three for drain connection, sealing, and cure time before use. If floor repair is needed, add a day or two. We’ll tell you the schedule at the estimate, and we keep noise confined to the hours we said we would, which matters when there’s a napping toddler in the next room.
We carry Original and Premier shower pans, drain assemblies, and trim kits on our service trucks in common sizes like 32″ x 60″ and 36″ x 60″. If your home needs a less common size or the gray Premier surround, we order it ahead and schedule the install once it lands. Call (850) 779-4017 and tell us what you have; we’ll tell you what’s in stock and what we’ll need to order.
