ActiveYards Kitchen Remodeling: The Tampa Owner’s Guide
A full ActiveYards kitchen remodeling project in Tampa typically runs between $14,000 and $45,000 installed, depending on cabinet line, countertop material, and how much of the existing footprint we’re reworking. We’ll put that price in writing before the first tool comes off the truck, so you’re never guessing. Most Tampa homeowners find us the same way: the kitchen that worked when the house was built has stopped working for the way the family actually cooks, cleans, and gathers now.
The ActiveYards approach leans on modular, pre-engineered components, which is part of why owners often try to patch things piece by piece first. A cabinet face here, a drawer glide there. But Tampa’s humidity gets into the joints of older laminated doors and drawer boxes, and after a decade or so you’re not fixing a part anymore. You’re deciding whether the whole room should be rebuilt around how your family actually lives in it.
Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

The ActiveYards system is built around aluminum-framed fence and rail components in its core lineup, which matters because we also get calls about KraftMaid and Cambria kitchen components from owners who were told the pieces would swap out easily. Here’s the compatibility gotcha: ActiveYards predates the mixed-material kitchen lines now marketed under similar names, so the kitchen hardware you’re holding may be original to a 2000s-era builder package, not a current catalog item. The label inside the drawer box tells the real story. Look for a printed code beginning with the model year, usually two digits, followed by a cabinet series letter. If that label is gone or the printed code has faded past reading, measure the drawer box depth and the hinge mounting pattern before you order anything.
For ActiveYards-specific kitchen renovation, what we’re usually replacing is the whole cabinet run, not a single door. The box construction on those builder-era cabinets was a three-quarter-inch melamine core with heat-fused edging, and once the edge banding lifts on a lower cabinet in a Florida kitchen, the moisture wicks up through the core and the box starts to delaminate. After that, new doors on old boxes is a waste of money. We stock KraftMaid and Wellborn cabinet lines, and Cambria, Silestone, and Caesarstone countertop surfaces, because those are the brands whose warranties survive a Tampa summer and remain verifiable by you.

Signs Your ActiveYards Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
Here’s what we see most often in Tampa kitchens that were installed in the early-to-mid 2000s, and what each symptom is actually telling you.
- Lower cabinet doors won’t stay closed, especially under the sink. The moisture from the plumbing chase, combined with Florida humidity, has swollen the particleboard core. The original friction hinges can’t hold a warped door. This is a box failure, not a hinge problem.
- Drawer fronts pull away from the drawer box at the top edge. The adhesive holding the front to the box dries out and fails in humid air. You might think it just needs reglued, but the box itself is usually soft behind that face.
- An upper cabinet shifts when you open the door, and the interior seams show daylight. The cabinet was hung with hanging rails that have loosened. The wall anchors or the rail itself have moved. The box is now carrying load it wasn’t designed to carry.
- The countertop seam has widened, or the laminate edge has lifted clean off. Tampa’s humidity swings between wet season and dry-for-Florida winter, and laminate tops built years ago expand and contract until the glue line gives out for good.
- There’s a persistent, slightly sweet smell under the sink that cleaning products won’t cover. That’s mold in the cabinet floor and the bottom of the back panel. The cabinet structure has been wicked up through the base. The affected box and possibly the one next to it need to come out.
None of these fix themselves, and none of them get cheaper by waiting. The moisture in any failed cabinet box only moves wider once the laminate seal is breached.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what we quote in Tampa, and the ranges hold because we write them down before work starts.
- Full kitchen remodel (ActiveYards-era kitchen, new cabinets, counters, fixtures): $14,000 – $45,000
- Small kitchen remodel (galley or condo kitchen): $9,000 – $20,000
- Cabinet installation only (full kitchen): $4,000 – $13,000
- Countertop installation only: $2,000 – $6,500
- Backsplash installation: $800 – $2,500
- Kitchen island installation: $3,000 – $10,000
What moves you within the range is the cabinet line, the countertop material, whether we’re moving plumbing or electrical, and how much of the drywall and flooring needs repair after the old boxes come down. The number we write on your line-item quote is the number you pay. No change orders because the crew found something we should have predicted. No surprises. We pull the permits, schedule the inspections, and the job closes when it passes, not when the foreman decides it’s close enough.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things an owner can check safely: hold the door and look at the hinge plate, open every drawer and feel for grinding glides, run your hand along the cabinet edges to find lifted banding. That’s diagnosis, and it tells you what you’re dealing with. Removing a whole bank of cabinets is where DIY goes wrong. Upper boxes are fastened through the back panel into wall studs, and in older Tampa homes those studs can be 24 inches on center, not 16. The cabinet has to be transferred to the new layout with proper blocking, and countertops that are glued to the base cabinets with construction adhesive will tear the drywall if you pry them off alone.
We treat surgery on a kitchen the way Graham Stein trained for it: sequence first, then force. You’re welcome to call (850) 779-4017 even if you’re only at the diagnostic stage. We’ll tell you honestly whether the symptom you’re seeing is a $40 cabinet catch or a full replacement. That call is free.
FAQs

Builder-grade kitchen cabinetry installed in Tampa homes 15 to 25 years ago lasts about 15 to 20 years before the boxes begin failing from humidity and moisture wicking, and the countertop edges fail sooner if they’re laminate. Kitchen remodels we install now are built around materials chosen for the Gulf Coast humidity, including sealed edging and moisture-resistant cabinet box cores.
A failed cabinet box in a humid kitchen can’t be reliably repaired, because the glue line has already failed and the core has soaked. You can sometimes reglue a door edge and get another year, but the box itself is done. We’ll tell you which one you have before we write anything down.
Most Tampa full kitchen remodels take three to six weeks, depending on whether plumbing or electrical moves and how much lead time the cabinet manufacturer gives us. We’ll give you the calendar days in writing before the project starts, and we keep noise confined to the hours we actually told you to expect it.
We don’t stock full ActiveYards cabinet boxes, and neither does anyone else in Tampa, because that line hasn’t been produced for kitchens in years. We do stock KraftMaid and Wellborn samples and can order full cabinet runs, and we stock Cambria, Silestone, and Caesarstone samples for countertops. What’s on the truck on day one is the protection layer: shoe covers, drop cloths, and the clean-up photo gear. Call (850) 779-4017 for an exact quote, free.
