Mr-Glass Kitchen Remodeling: The Tampa Owner’s Guide

If your Mr-Glass kitchen remodeling components are failing, Elmstead Remodeling Tampa matches, supplies, and installs compatible replacement parts with a typical installed project range of $14,000 – $45,000 depending on scope. We carry common Mr-Glass-series glass panel hardware, track systems, and cabinet glass inserts on the truck, and we can source discontinued or odd-size pieces the same week. Most Tampa homeowners call us after a glass cabinet door starts sagging, a glass panel develops a hairline crack from humidity cycling, or the aluminum frame around a glass insert pulls away from the cabinet face.

Call (850) 779-4017

We’re an independent contractor, not a Mr-Glass dealer or affiliate. What that means in practice: we’ll match the part honestly, tell you when a quality aftermarket equivalent outlasts the OEM piece, and install it so the door closes square the first time.

Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

A galley kitchen opened up to the dining room with a new peninsula

Mr-Glass built several series of glass-front cabinets and insert panels over the years, and the compatibility gotcha is the glass thickness spec. Early Mr-Glass cabinets used 3/16-inch tempered glass in aluminum frames with a 5/8-inch channel depth. Later production moved to 1/4-inch glass with a deeper 3/4-inch channel. The difference sounds small, but a 3/16-inch panel in a 3/4-inch channel rattles, and a 1/4-inch panel forced into a 5/8-inch channel will crack at the corner within a season of Florida humidity swings.

To identify what you have, look at the hinge plate: older Mr-Glass lines used a stamped steel side-mount hinge with two adjustment screws; newer lines use a European-style cup hinge with a snap-on cover. The glass itself is always etched with a small tempered-glass mark in one corner, usually bottom-left. If the etching is worn, measure the glass thickness at the edge with a caliper. That measurement, plus the hinge type, is what we use to match a replacement.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for Mr-Glass glass panels, a quality tempered replacement from a Florida glass fabricator is functionally identical and usually carries a longer local warranty than a shipped OEM panel. For the aluminum frames and hinge hardware, OEM matters more because the extrusion profile and screw spacing are proprietary. We’ll tell you which is which on your job, with the reasoning written on the estimate.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Sagging glass door corners. The hinge screws have stripped from the cabinet box, usually because the original screws were too short for Florida’s humidity-softened particleboard. The fix is inserting a threaded anchor or moving the hinge plate, not tightening the same screw back into the same hole.
  • Hairline cracks radiating from a frame corner. This is thermal stress. The aluminum frame expands and contracts faster than the glass, and over enough Tampa summer cycles the glass fatigues. Once the crack starts, replacement is the only safe fix.
  • Glass sitting loose in the frame and rattling when the cabinet closes. The gasket or glazing channel has compressed. If the panel is original Mr-Glass, the rubber channel is often hard and cracked from age. Re-gasketing is sometimes possible; glass replacement is more common.
  • Cloudy or fogged glass that won’t clean up. Some Mr-Glass insert panels were double-glazed; when the seal fails, moisture gets between the panes. That’s a panel replacement, not a cleaning problem.
  • Aluminum frame pulling away from the cabinet face. Usually the adhesive bond, not the screws, has failed along the top rail. The cabinet box may also have soaked water from sink splashback, which weakens the face frame. We check both before quoting.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open kitchen and dining area after a remodel

In Tampa, a Mr-Glass kitchen remodeling parts replacement or refresh runs from $14,000 to $45,000, depending on how much of the cabinet array is affected. Here’s the line-item breakdown:

Scope Tampa Installed Range
Full kitchen remodel (Mr-Glass-compatible glass cabinets, counters, fixtures) $14,000 – $45,000
Small kitchen remodel with glass panel replacements $9,000 – $20,000
Cabinet installation (glass-front boxes, frames, hardware) $4,000 – $13,000
Countertop installation (Cambria, Silestone, Caesarstone) $2,000 – $6,500
Kitchen island installation $3,000 – $10,000

The range moves on glass panel count, whether we’re rebuilding boxes or just retrofitting doors, and the countertop material you choose. Every quote from Graham Stein includes a written line-item price before the first tool comes off the truck. We write it down before we start so nobody is guessing mid-project. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installed parts and our workmanship: if it isn’t right, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

If you’re replacing a glass panel that’s already out of the frame, you can take the old panel to a local glass shop and have a tempered match cut, then seat it in fresh glazing channel yourself. That said, the glass is tempered for a reason: it’s under load inside an aluminum frame, and a panel that’s cut 1/16-inch oversize will bind, crack, or launch a shard when the frame flexes. The dangerous work in a Mr-Glass setup is anything involving removing a live hinge under tension or prying a stuck panel from a warped frame. Tempered glass stores energy, and when it fails it fails all at once. If the frame is bent, the cabinet box is soft, or you’re not certain of the glass thickness spec, that’s the point to hand it to someone who does this weekly.

Call (850) 779-4017 and we’ll match the part, check the hinges, and install it with the door closing square. Estimates are free.
