Tamko Fence Installation: The Tampa Owner’s Guide

Tamko fence installation in Tampa typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full perimeter job, with material quality, linear footage, and whether we’re pulling old posts or setting new ones driving most of the variance. We install Tamko-compatible vinyl, composite, and decorative aluminum systems and usually complete a standard backyard fence in three to five working days once materials land. Most Tampa homeowners call us after a storm has taken out a section, a post has rotted at the soil line, or the original install was done by a crew that skimped on concrete footings, and now the fence leans like a tired runner against a wall.

Call (850) 779-4017

We are an independent Tampa contractor, not affiliated with Tamko, but we work with their product lines because the material tolerances are consistent enough to plan around. If you’re holding a broken rail, a cracked picket, or a gate that drags, we can match it. If you’re starting fresh, we can walk you through what we’d spec for your yard, your soil, and the way your dog tests fences.

Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko’s fencing catalog splits into a few families: solid vinyl privacy panels, semi-private scalloped and tongue-and-groove styles, and their Envision composite line, which we see more often on newer Tampa builds. The compatibility gotcha is this: Tamko vinyl panels from the mid-2010s used a slightly different tongue profile than current production, and the color codes have shifted twice. A “tan” rail from 2014 is not the same “tan” sitting on a supplier shelf today. We bring physical samples to the job before ordering, because matching by photo is how you get a two-tone fence.

Identifying your part starts with the cap rail. Look on the underside for a small stamped mold number, usually a four-digit code, and check the bottom rail for the same. If those numbers are gone, we measure the wall thickness of the picket (roughly .035 to .045 inches on most Tamko vinyl) and the inside channel width of the rail, which tells us which series you have. OEM Tamko parts are the cleanest match for color and warranty continuity. Aftermarket vinyl from local Tampa suppliers can be half the cost on a small repair, but the fade rate in Florida sun is inconsistent, and a mismatched panel three years later is more visible than anyone wants. For structural jobs, new posts, full sections, gate rebuilds, we recommend OEM or the Envision line directly.

Signs Your Tamko Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Leaning posts with intact panels. The vinyl is fine but the footing failed. In Tampa’s sandy, fast-draining soil, posts set in a 6-inch hole with a bag of quick-set lean within two years. We dig 24 to 30 inches minimum and use a full concrete collar.
  • Rails popping out of the post channels. Vinyl expands in heat. If rails were cut too tight against the post, they bow and snap free in August. We leave a proper expansion gap, usually a quarter inch inside the channel.
  • Gate dragging or refusing to latch. The diagonal brace on a vinyl gate loses tension over time, or the hinge screws stripped out of the post. Both are fixable without replacing the whole fence, unless the post itself has cracked.
  • Pickets cracking at the top or bottom screw line. That is the installer’s mistake, not a material defect. Overdriving screws through vinyl causes stress fractures that show up after one full Tampa summer. We use routed slots or clips, not screws straight through the face.
  • White chalky film on the surface. Florida’s UV load is brutal. Snapping a picket in half and finding it brittle means the vinyl’s UV stabilizers have degraded. That’s a replacement job, not a cleaning job.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Tamko fence replacement in Tampa runs $3,500 to $9,000 depending on linear feet, grade, gate count, whether the existing posts can be reused, and how much of the old fence has to be hauled away. A single-section repair, one post plus a rail and a few pickets, usually lands between $300 and $800. A gate rebuild on an existing Tamko frame runs $500 to $1,200. We write the price before any work starts, it includes demo, disposal, materials, concrete, and hardware, and it does not grow once the crew arrives. If we pull a post and find a sprinkler line where we didn’t expect one, we stop and talk to you before anything changes, but the written price includes the fencing scope we quoted.

Every Tamko installation we do carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a section shifts, a gate sags, or a rail pops within a year, we make it right at no charge. The manufacturer’s material warranty on Tamko vinyl carries separately, and we give you the literature with the product codes on it, not a vague promise that “it’s warrantied.”

DIY or Call Us?

You can absolutely reset a leaning post yourself if you have the time and a post level, but the job is dirt work before it is fence work. Dig it out, check for sprinkler lines first, pour a proper collar, brace it square, let it cure a full 48 hours before rehanging panels. The safe checks for a failing gate are simple: tighten the hinge screws, check that the top and bottom rails still seat fully in the post channels, and confirm the post caps are glued down so water isn’t pooling inside. Where DIY goes wrong is when a post has rotted below grade, or a whole section blew over, and the homeowner braces it with stakes, calls it fixed, and the next storm sends a panel through a neighbor’s lanai screen. That’s the moment to call (850) 779-4017. We’ll look at it, write the scope, and tell you exactly what needs replacement and what just needs tightening.

Talk to Us About Your Tamko Fence

We work in the Seminole Heights bungalow corridors and across Tampa, and we have seen enough fence installs to know which corners get cut and which have already failed. Graham Stein writes the fixed-price scope himself before a single tool comes off the truck. We write it down before we start so nobody is guessing mid-project. Shoe covers go on at the door, drop cloths go down on the walkway, and the photo of the clean-up is taken before we pack up. If your Tamko fence is leaning, cracked, or gone in a section, call (850) 779-4017 for a free estimate. We are Elmstead Remodeling Tampa, a Cedarwell company, and we also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on the jobs that follow the fence.
