Toto Bathroom Remodeling: The Tampa Owner’s Guide
If you’re searching for Toto bathroom remodeling in Tampa, you’re likely weighing a repair against a fuller remodel, and the honest installed range in this market runs $9,000 to $28,000 depending on what’s failing and what you want upgraded while we’re in the wall. We install and service Toto toilets, bidets, washlet seats, and the plumbing behind them, and we stock common Toto parts on the truck for same-day symptom calls. Most Tampa homeowners discover the problem one of two ways: a slow leak at the tank-to-bowl gasket that finally shows up as a water stain on the ceiling below, or a Washlet that powers on but won’t heat the seat or spray correctly.
We write the price down before we start so nobody is guessing mid-project. That applies whether we’re swapping a fill valve or gutting a Seminole Heights bathroom to the studs and rebuilding around a new Toto Neorest.
Which Toto Models This Applies To

Toto’s US lineup splits into a few families, and the part you need depends on which one you own. The Drake and Drake II use the G-Max and Double Cyclone flushing systems, and their tank internals (fill valves, flappers, flush valves) are broadly interchangeable across the Drake, Eco Drake, and Vespin lines. The Ultramax and Supreme are one-piece toilets with different tank-to-bowl geometry, so a gasket or flush valve for a Drake will not seat correctly on those. The Washlet series (C2, C5, S350e, S550e, and the newer K300) share mounting brackets across most elongated bowls, but the water supply tee and the seat sensor spacing differ between models. The Neorest is its own animal: integrated bidet, premist system, and a proprietary flush module that Toto replaces as a unit rather than a component.
How to identify yours: lift the tank lid and look for the model stamp inside the tank wall, or check the back edge of a Washlet seat for a printed label. On Neorest models, the model number is on a sticker behind the remote dock. For aftermarket versus OEM: Toto’s own rubber components (flappers and gaskets) are worth the extra $8 to $30 because the durometer of the rubber is matched to Toto’s ceramic tolerances. Aftermarket fill valves are generally fine. Aftermarket Washlet seats and Neorest modules are not something we’d install, the control boards and sensor arrays are not reliably replicated.
One Tampa-specific compatibility gotcha: if your home is on well water or has older galvanized supply lines, Toto’s 1/2-inch fill valve inlets clog with sediment faster than most brands because the valve body passages are narrow by design. We see this often in older Carrollwood and Seminole Heights homes. We install an inline sediment filter on Toto supply lines wherever the home is on a well.

Signs Your Toto Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Water pooling around the base or a damp ceiling below the toilet. The tank-to-bowl gasket or the wax ring has failed. On one-piece models, the gasket is a Toto-specific part with a wider seat than the hardware-store universal, which is why the “it’s just a gasket” fix still leaks six months later.
- The toilet runs for a few seconds every 20 to 40 minutes. The fill valve diaphragm or the flapper has a slow bypass. On Toto Dual Flush models, the push-button cable tension drifts over time and the smaller flush volume stays partially open.
- The Washlet seat won’t heat or the spray pressure drops to a dribble. The inline water heater has scale buildup from hard Tampa water, or the solenoid valve is starting to fail. These are replaceable on C2 and C5 seats; on S-series seats the heater is a covered module that Toto services through us as a warranty vendor in Tampa.
- The flush is weak or makes a “chugging” sound mid-flush. The rim jets are partially blocked with mineral deposits. Toto’s Double Cyclone rim is more prone to this than the G-Max design because the jet orifices are smaller. A descaling routine helps, but if the chugging persists, the flush valve is bleeding pressure.
- The toilet rocks even though the bolts are tight. The flange is cracked or has settled below the finished floor. In Tampa slab homes, this usually means the concrete around the flange has spalled, and a straight re-seat won’t hold until the flange is repaired.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a straight Toto component swap in Tampa (fill valve, flapper, gasket, wax ring, or a Washlet heater), the installed cost typically runs between $180 and $450 including the OEM part, labor, and a test flush cycle before we leave. That’s a repair call, not a remodel, and we confirm the written price by phone before we arrive, because the scope shouldn’t change once we’re standing in your bathroom.
| Scope | Tampa Installed Range |
|---|---|
| Toto component repair (valves, gaskets, seat modules) | $180 – $450 |
| Full toilet replacement with Toto model and supply/fixture work | $700 – $1,800 |
| Toto Washlet retrofit on existing bowl | $650 – $1,500 |
| Bathroom remodel built around Toto fixtures (toilet, bidet, trim, tile, vanity) | $9,000 – $28,000 |
| Small bathroom remodel focused on toilet swap and fixture refresh | $5,000 – $12,000 |
What drives the wide remodel range: whether we’re moving the rough-in drain (slab work in a Tampa ranch typically means cutting and re-pouring), the wall condition behind the toilet, and the finish level you choose for the surrounding bathroom. Every remodel gets a written line-item price before we start, the same brands we named above, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check three things on a Toto without tools: whether the supply valve at the wall is fully open, whether the Washlet power cord is fully seated in the seat socket, and whether a running toilet stops when you lift the tank lid and press down gently on the flapper. Those checks cost you nothing and often pinpoint the issue.
What we’d rather you not do is pull a one-piece Toto toilet or remove a Washlet seat with the water line live. One-piece models weigh 90 to 100 pounds and the porcelain walls have no good hand-holds; we’ve repaired cracked bowls from a DIY lift that went sideways in a South Tampa condo. Toto’s electrical seats also carry live 120V into the seat body, which is nothing to work around while the unit is plugged in. Call (850) 779-4017 and we’ll give you the straight scope over the phone, including the part cost, before we roll a truck.
FAQs

A well-maintained Toto toilet body will outlast two or three sets of internal components, typically 15 to 25 years of service in Tampa’s hard water, with rubber and valve servicing roughly every 5 to 7 years. The porcelain body is essentially a lifetime part unless it’s cracked or the glaze is heavily etched from abrasive cleaning.
Fill valves, flappers, gaskets, and Washlet heaters can all be repaired on most models; what cannot be reliably repaired is a cracked porcelain body or a failed Neorest flush module, which Toto replaces as a sealed unit. We’ll tell you honestly which side of that line your part is on before any work is scheduled. Call (850) 779-4017 for a free repair-versus-replace assessment.
A standard component swap takes 45 minutes to an hour and a half, including the post-repair flush test and floor clean-up. A full toilet replacement or Washlet retrofit runs two to three hours, and a remodel built around Toto fixtures takes as long as the full scope requires, which we lay out week by week in the written price.
We keep Drake and Drake II tank internals, common gaskets, wax rings, Washlet supplies, and the sediment filters we use on well-water homes stocked on the truck in Tampa. Neorest modules and S-series heater units are ordered directly from Toto’s distribution network and typically arrive in three to five business days. Call (850) 779-4017 and we’ll confirm stock for your specific model before you schedule.
We’re an independent Tampa remodeling contractor, not affiliated with Toto directly, and we carry the same care through every job that we carry into homes with kids and pets: drop cloths on the floors, shoe covers at the door, quiet tools during the nap and school hours, and a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. Graham Stein, the owner here at Elmstead Remodeling Tampa, learned the trade the old way, two decades of framing and finishes before hanging the shingle, and he still walks every finished bathroom himself before we call the job done.
